ESOL Classes

Registration for ESOL classes is complete at this time.

All English for Speakers of Other Languages Classes
and Waiting Lists Are full.
There is no ESOL registration scheduled.


The demand for ESOL, Pre-GED and GED classes far exceeds the number of spaces available. This is a free program and public funding is very limited.

Please contact your representatives in government and ask them to support legislation that increases funding for Adult Literacy Education. You can obtain your representatives' contact information from The League of Women Voters (www.lwvnyc.org).

GED Test Registration Only

The GED Testing Center strongly recommends that you complete a preparation class before registering for a GED test date. The failure rate for individuals taking the GED test in New York City is over 57%.

Academic instruction and test practice greatly improve your chances of passing the GED test. Free classes are available and can be found by calling 311 or by going to the New York State Education Department or City University of New York websites. Links with more information are listed below for your convenience.

CUNY Literacy Programs

Individuals from the community who successfully complete GED preparation programs are given priority seating at the Brooklyn College GED Testing Center. Most programs make appointments for their students who are ready to pass the test.

There is a very limited number of seats available for individuals who want to schedule the GED test on their own without attending a GED preparation program first. If you would like to try for one of those few spots, please read and follow the directions below.

All testing appointments are made through GED COMPASS. All potential testers must first register and request a seat at the Brooklyn College GED Testing Center via gedcompass.com After registering and requesting a test date on the GED COMPASS website, mail a properly completed application form with all required documentation including any previous test scores to:
